Photocopying in the Library

Our public photocopiers are located on the first floor of the Hoffman section of the library. If you should have any problems at all with these copiers, please see the librarian at the Reference Desk. If you need change, please come to the Reference Desk.

There are two ways to make photocopies in the library: with change and with a copy card. Copies made with change cost 15 cents each. Copies made with a copy card, cost 10 cents each, but, first you have to buy a copy card (and copy cards are sold with no copies on them) for $1.00. If you hang onto the card for longer than 20 copies, then it's more economical to buy a copy card. We have Sharpies at the Reference Desk if you want to put your name and number on your copy card.

The copiers all say "Add Paper" before you add money or a loaded copy card. Once you put money in the copier, the readout changes to "Ready to Copy".

Change:

  1. Insert change in the metal slot on the top of the copier. Insert dollar or five dollar bills, face up, in the black slot on the right hand side of the copier. you should see the amount you've inserted in the screen near the change slot.
  2. Place your original upper left hand corner of the glass.
  3. On the control panel, choose the number of copies you want to make.
  4. Press the green start button.
  5. The copies will be delivered into the tray directly under the control panel.
  6. If there is any money left in the copier, press the button above the change slot to release your change.

Copy Cards:

Copy cards eject from the Vendacoder dispenser and copiers very slowly and in a two step process. Make sure your card is fully ejected before you take it.

Buying a copy card:

  1. Check the small red light in the lower right hand corner of the Vendacoder machine to see if there are cards left in the machine. Don't insert cash if that light is on. If there are no more copy cards left in the Vendacoder, come to the Reference Desk.
  2. Insert one dollar bill face up in black slot. This machine is very persnickety about quality of the bills it accepts. If your bill is rejected, come to the Reference Desk and we'll try to find one that works.
  3. Press the green Eject Card button. The blank, copy-free, copy card should eject from the #2 slot.
  4. Put that card back into the #3 slot on the left hand side of the Vendacoder.
  5. Add cash (ones and fives) in the #1 slot. You should see the dollar amount reflected in the readout.
  6. Press either the orange button or the green Eject Card button to get your loaded copy card.

Adding copies a copy card:

  1. On either the Vendacoder or copier, insert your copy card into the slot beneath the orange button. The readout should indicate how many copies are on your card.
