Rising Seniors,

First, congratulations to the winners of the Senior Carrel lottery.

The lottery for these 119 seats took place, by online application, from Monday, August 25 at 8am until noon on Friday, September 5. If you were chosen, you were notified on Saturday, September 6 and assigned to one of three sign-up days, or to the waiting list. The sign up days are:

Monday, September 8, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Tuesday, September 9, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Wednesday, September 10, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Come to Room 203 of Stevenson Library to choose your carrel on the day indicated in your notification email. If you do not show up on the day to which you are assigned, your spot may be given to a student on the waiting list. If any unclaimed carrels remain at the end of these three sign-up days, they will be opened to the students on the waiting list on Thursday, September 11, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Carrels will be issued only to students whose library records are in good standing. This means that your fines are below $50.00 and your record does not include any "billed" books. Billed books are books so overdue that our system has assumed they are lost and has fined your library record with the replacement fee. This stipulation relates to ConnectNY books as well as books from our own collection. To view your library record, click here. If you need to resolve any outstanding issues with fines or overdue books, please contact Carl Hoyt at ext. 7359, Stevenson Library Room 102. To resolve ConnectNY problems, please e-mail Daisy Campbell.

Senior Carrel Information

1. Library books on your carrel must be properly checked out. Make sure the correct “Date Due” is stamped in each book.

2. Books kept at your carrel should be left sensitized. If you later want to take them out of the library, the Circulation Desk can desensitize them when you leave and re-sensitize them when you come back.

3. Non-circulating materials may NOT be kept at your carrel. This includes:

  • Periodicals
  • Reference books
  • Senior Projects
  • Reserves books
  • Photography books

4. The carrel is not yours exclusively. Others may sit there when it is not in use.

5. We do not recommend keeping personal copies of books at your carrel because we have no way to protect them from being stolen.

6. The senior loan period for borrowing books is one semester. Please note that Connect NY books always have a loan period of 21 days with one renewal. If you still need CNY books when the due date is up, please return them and reorder. Don’t forget to renew your Stevenson Library books at the end of the semester.

7. Please help us maintain the library by treating your carrel space with respect. Do not leave food or drinks at your carrel, and take care that your belongings stay on the carrel (not the windowsills or floor), so they do not become a hindrance to the cleaning staff.
